T.O. 1C-141B-9 C-141B/C Loading Instructions
Starlifter
The Model C-141B Starlifter aircraft
is an all-metal, high-speed, long-range,
high sweptback wing monoplane. The aircraft
is powered by four pylon-mounted TF33-P-7
turbofan engines. The aircraft transports troops,
wheeled vehicles, bulk or palletized cargo, or
any combination of these loads. Cargo installed
on airdrop platforms can be extracted through
rear doors for aerial drops. The fuselage afterbody
design is such as to permit rapid loading of
palletized cargo. Two petal doors in the faired
T-shaped empennage operate with an adjustable
ramp to provide a large rear opening for
cargo loading. When closed, the petal doors
function as part of the fuselage and lend clean
aerodynamic lines to the aircraft.
The purpose of this manual is to provide
cargo handling personnel with sufficient
information and data to enable them to load,
secure, and offload all types of cargo efficiently
and safely, and to explain to them the restrictions
governing these operations. Troop
and cargo airdrop procedures are included.
The manual contains descriptions and
physical characteristics of cargo items and the
handling equipment used. Included are complete
preloading, loading, postloading, preflight,
inflight, and offloading procedures pertaining
to all types of general cargo, plus special instructions
for the handling of certain specific
equipment transported in the C-141B aircraft.
Instructions are given for seat and litter installation,
as well as complete troop and cargo
procedures.
