Stratotanker

These instructions provide you with a general knowledge of the airplane, its characteristics, and specific normal and emergency operating procedures. Instructions in this manual are prepared to be understandable by the least experienced crew expected to operate this airplane. This manual provides the best possible operating instructions under most circumstances, but it is a poor substitute for sound judgment. Multiple emergencies, adverse weather, terrain, etc. may require modification of the procedures.

The KC-135E/R/T is a four engine, swept wing, long range, high altitude, high speed airplane that is primarily a tanker but may also be used as a cargo carrier or troop transport. As a tanker, the boom on the tail section is used to transfer up to approximately 200,000 pounds of fuel to other airplanes for refueling inflight.

[MPRS] Multi-point refueling system equipped air¬planes can also offload fuel to probe and drogue type receivers using wing-tip mounted air refueling pods.

The cargo compartment and load carrying capability of the airplane make it possible to transport large quantities of equipment on cargo missions; re¬fer to WEIGHT LIMITATIONS in Section V of T.O. 1C-135(K)E(I)-1 or T.O. 1C-135(K)R(I)-1, as applicable, for payload computations. The cargo compartment is pressurized, air conditioned, and has provisions for seating up to 57 persons.

[KT] The original single-point refueling system is modified with an additional refueling receptacle added in the left wheel well. This permits isolation of the wing tanks from the body tanks so that different types of fuel can be used. Ballast has been added in the nose radar antenna compartment to promote a favorable cg condition when the forward body tank is empty.
