The NATOPS flight manual is issued by the authority of the Chief of Naval Operations and under the direction of Commander, Naval Air Systems Command in conjunction with the naval air training and operating procedures standardization program. This manual contains information on all aircraft systems, performance data, and operating procedures required for safe and effective operations. However, it is not a substitute for sound judgment. Compound emergencies, available facilities, adverse weather or terrain, or considerations affecting the lives and property of others may require modification of the procedures contained herein. Read this manual from cover to cover. It’s your responsibility to have a complete knowledge of its contents.

The Lockheed KC-130R is a high-wing, all-metal, long-range, land-based monoplane. The mission of the aircraft is to provide in-flight refueling or rapid transportation of personnel or cargo for delivery by parachute or landing. The aircraft can be used as a tactical transport carrying 92 ground troops or 64 paratroops and equipment, and it can be converted readily for ambulance or aerial delivery missions. When used as an ambulance, the aircraft can carry 64 litters. The aircraft can take off and land on short runways, and can be used on landing strips such as those found in advanced base operations.
