United States Army Field Manuals

A Department of the Army publication that describes Army doctrine and tactics for implementation. FMs also implement ratified international standardization agreements and are normally the basis for development of training materials.

Information The United States Army has used two different numbering systems. The new numbering system for United States Army field manuals (FMs) aligns Army FMs with the Joint numbering protocols in Joint Pub 1–01, when possible, and uses seven functional categories (six of which match the Joint) versus the 62 categories previously used.

A particular number group below could contain manuals categorized under the old system, the new system, or a combination of the old and new numbering systems.

Search SEARCH for field manuals if you are unsure of the number or category.
